FirstGroup picks finance director

Transport company FirstGroup has named Chris Surch as the Aberdeen-based firm’s finance director.

Surch joins the bus and train operator from waste management outfit Shanks, where he has been group finance director since May 2009.

He had previously held senior financial roles at Smiths Group and TI Group, having trained as an accountant with PwC.

Jeff Carr, FirstGroup’s previous financial director, stood down in November to join Dutch supermarket chain Royal Ahold.

Chief executive Tim O’Toole thanked Nick Chevis for his work as acting finance director.
