Dundee rides high in UK income tax table
RESIDENTS of Dundee, Aberdeen and Glasgow are paying a level of income tax higher than the UK average, a new report has revealed.
Dundee residents paid average income tax of 3,040 in the 2007-8 tax year, the last year for which figures are available, according to research by accountant UHY Hacker Young.
It was the seventh highest rate in the UK and an 11.4 per cent increase on the previous year, compared with a UK-wide average increase of 6.6 per cent to 5,010. UHY said the increase was due to fiscal drag, with personal tax allowance thresholds rising more slowly than earnings.
